General Information
The South Carolina Counseling Association is an educational and
charitable organization which has established itself as a leader in
serving the diversity of helping professions that exist in South
Carolina.
The groups include:
- School Counselors - All levels from elementary through post-secondary
- Employment Counselors and Supervisors
- College Student Personnel Practioners
- Vocational Guidance Practioners
- Supervisors of Guidance Services
- School Psychologists and Humanistic Educators
- Counselor Educators
- Measurement and Evaluation Specialists
- Rehabilitation Counselors
- Mental Health Counselors
- Counselors Specializing in Multicultural Concerns
- Specialists in Group Work
- Counselors in Probation, Parole and Public Offenders Programs
- Counselors in Community Centers, Career Centers and Manpower Development Programs
- Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselors
- Private Practioners
SSCA is organized and operated exclusively for educational and charitable purposes. This organization monitors legislation of interest to its members as a service and disseminates related information, but it does not participate in any political campaigns.
SSCA, which now has a membership of over 1,200, is a state branch of the
AMERICAN COUNSELING ASSOCIATION (ACA). Included in the state's organization are eight chartered divisions and six active interest groups, all of which have direct affiliation with corresponding national divisions of ACA. In addition, there are three state chapters: Coastal (Horry); Tri-County (Berkeley, Charleston, Dorchester); and an Anderson Interest Group. There is also a student interest group for full-time graduate students.
