Frequently Asked Questions
Is the SCCA involved in the licensure process?
No, we are not involved with the licensure or complaint process. If you have questions regarding licensure or filing a formal complaint, you can contact the SC Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation (SC LLR) at llr.sc.gov/cou/. If you have specific questions regarding your own licensure, the board can also be reached via email (Contact.Counselor@llr.sc.gov) or telephone (803-896-4658).
We do offer consultation for licensure application to our members - to utilize this membership benefit, click here.
Can the SCCA give me ethical or legal advice?
The SCCA adheres to the American Counseling Association (ACA) Code of Ethics, which can be read in full here: https://www.counseling.org/knowledge-center/ethics. ACA members can access Ethics Consultation Services either online or by calling 1-800-347-6647 ext. 321. This is not a hotline, calls are prioritized and it may take up to three business days to get a response. Legal resources can also be obtained through the ACA here: https://www.counseling.org/knowledge-center/ethics/risk-management.
How do I get involved in SCCA leadership?
Nominations are elicited once a year to occupy SCCA leadership positions. SCCA members vote on these nominations and results are announced in the spring. If you would like to get involved by working on an action team or a task force, please reach out directly to us via email at southcarolinacounselingassoc@gmail.com or through the “Contact Us” portal at http://sccounselor.org/contact-us.html.
Can the SCCA connect me with a practicum or internship site?
The SCCA does not connect students with practicum or internship sites. Our organization does provide the benefit of networking via CE events and regional conferences, but we do not provide these specific connections. Job listings or internship opportunities are sent to members via our E-Newsletter as they become available. If you are a graduate student seeking practicum or internship placement, you should start by contacting your Field Placement Coordinator or Academic Advisor in your counseling program.
How can I give feedback to SCCA leadership?
Feedback from SCCA members is always welcome! Feedback can be sent via email to southcarolinacounselingassoc@gmail.com or through the “Contact Us” portal at http://sccounselor.org/contact-us.html.
