CCU Continuing Ed. 3cr= 15 hours

I am excited to announce that next week, CCU will begin to offer graduate level counseling courses. For those seeking their supervisor credential, we will be offering this training as well. We still have a few seats available if interested. Coursework also can be applied to continuing education credit hours. We welcome all!

At this time, we have launched three courses available for registration for the Fall 2024 semester:

  1. EDCO 500 Professional Counseling Orientation and Ethical Practice (3 credits)

  2. EDCO 607 Special Topics in Counseling (3 credits)

  3. EDCO 609 Counselor Supervision (3 credits)

We are still in the process of proposing a counseling program to the state of South Carolina Commission of Higher Education and Department of Education. CCU plans to offer two 60-credit M.Ed. graduate degree counseling programs: (1) clinical mental health counseling (CMHC) and (2) school counseling (SC).

EDCO 500 is a core course and requirement for both programs proposed and EDCO 607 and EDCO 609 are elective courses.

The new counseling programs will be submitted for review by nationally recognized higher education accreditors, The Council for the Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) and The Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP). CCU’s plan for the clinical mental health program is to support candidates’ licensure eligibility as a professional counselor in the state of South Carolina. For the school counseling program, CCU plans to prepare candidates to attain the K-12 South Carolina School Counselor credential. The anticipated timeline for the South Carolina Department of Education approval process is 18-24 months from the date of submission (school counseling program). We hope to first begin to start offering classes for clinical mental health counseling once the approval process is complete. Per the university, the maximum allotted transfer credits to be allowed for any graduate student seeking a degree from Coastal Carolina University is 12 credit hours. Please be made aware it will be the students’ responsibility to work with the program coordinator to ensure that credits meet the requirements of the university and the program.  (Below, you will find more specific information related to the  courses.) If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to me.

Thank you again for your interest.

Warmly,

Nicole
